One Solution for Determining Post-Acute Length of Stay

length of stay

Length of stay (LOS) is probably about the trickiest topic to discuss in healthcare today. We’ve been searching for this Goldilocks “just right” LOS and not yet finding a magic number. Due to bundled payments, hospitals are looking to lower LOS, while post-acute care providers have to find ways to bring in twice as many patients at these shorter stays in order to remain afloat financially.

What’s the answer to finding the right LOS that balances what the hospital wants, what PAC needs, and most importantly of all, what’s best for the patient?

McKnight’s Long-Term Care News recently asked me the same question. And let me tell you, answering it was not easy. There’s no single perfect solution, but there are a lot of good options out there. Click here to find out more about my suggested solution.
